The groundwater temperature is affected by natural factors (e.g. sunlight, percolating precipitation water, and rising of geothermal water) and anthropogenic factors (e.g. heat input via pipes and buildings).

 

Temperature measurements provide statements about the natural temperature stratification of the groundwater and anthropogenic changes in groundwater temperatures.
